Valentine Cut Out Cookies and Cookie Decorating Ideas

Christmas Cut Out Cookies 1 c. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
Egg substitute equal to 1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/ 2 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
Color sugars (optional)
Valentine shaped sprinkles (opitonal)

Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar. Mix in the egg and vanilla. Sift together the dry ingredients in another bowl. Add and blend the dry ingredients and the milk to creamed mixture. Chill for several hours. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface to about 1/8” thick. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters; place on greased cookie sheets. Sprinkle colored sugars on top of cookies before baking or bake as is and decorate when the cookies are cooled using Glaze and Frosting Recipe (Shown below). Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 4 to 5 dozen cookies.

Cookie Glaze

1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
Food color (optional)

Add all ingredients into a medium size bowl and beat together with an electric mixer on low until glaze is smooth. Separate glaze into smaller bowls; stir in a few drops of different food color into each bowl until desired color is achieved. Dip front of cookie into the glaze or spread glaze onto cookie with a knife. Stir glazes often to prevent them from setting up. Spread glaze over the top surface of the cookie. Allow glaze on cookies to set thoroughly before piping, frosting or storing cookies away.

Decorating Frosting

1 c. butter at room temperature
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 lb. powdered sugar
Milk
Food coloring

Cream butter with electric mixer; add vanilla. Gradually add powdered sugar a cup at a time; mixing until powder sugar is incorporated. Add more powdered sugar or a little milk as needed to obtain desired consistancy. Separate frosting into smaller bowls; stir in a few drops of different food color into each bowl until desired color is achieved. Add frosting into a cake decorating tube or put frosting into a plastic bag and snip off a small corner of the bag; decorate cookies as desired. Allow frosting on cookies to set thoroughly before storing cookies away. Layer cookies between wax paper when storing; do not stack to high. Makes about 3 cups of frosting.
