Spice Cookies

Spice Cookies 1 1/2 sticks margarine or butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 tbsp. water
2 1/3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 tap. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
Additional sugar for rolling

Add into mixer bowl butter and sugar. Beat until smooth. Beat in egg, molasses and water until blended. In a separate medium size bowl, combine flour, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Add to butter mixture and beat at low speed until combined. Cover with plastic wrap mixing bowl and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.

Roll into 1" balls, roll in sugar and then place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookie bottoms are lightly golden brown. Remove from sheets onto wire racks to cool. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
