Instructions:
Body and tail:
Row 1) With warm brown yarn, ch 5, sl st into first chain to form a ring, ch 2, 20 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch 2, ch 2.
Row 2) 2 dc in each dc sp - total 40 dc plus ch 2, ch 2.
Row 3) (1dc in next 2 dc sps, 2 dc in next dc sp) 13 times, dc in remaining sp, ch 2.
Row 4) (1 dc in next 3 dc sps, 2 dc in next dc sp) 13 times, dc in remaining sp, ch 2.
Row 5) 1 hdc in each dc sp, sc on top of ch.
Row 6) Ch 2, sc in hdc sp, (ch 3, skip hdc sp, sc in next hdc sp) 9 times, ch 2, skip hdc sp, sl st in next hdc sp, turn.
Row 7) Ch 3, sc in ch 3 sp, (ch 4, sc in next ch 3 sp) 8 times, ch 3, sl st in ch 2 sp, finish off.
Row 8) With blue yarn, sl st in ch 3 sp, ch 3, sc in same sp, (ch 4, sc in next ch 4 sp) 9 times, ch 3, sc in same sp, ch 2, turn.
Row 9) Sc in ch 3 sp, [ch 3, sl st into 3 rd ch from hook this creates a picot]. (Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1, sc in next ch 4 sp, create picot) in remaining sps, in last sp sl st in sp, finish off.
Head:
Row 1) With warm brown yarn, ch 4, sl st into first chain to form a ring, ch 4, make 21 tr in ring, sl st in top of ch 4, finish off. Make 2.
Refer to Illustration A and B to see where each feature is stitched on the chickens head.

Comb on top of head:
Row 1) Stack the two head pieces on top of each other with wrong sides together. Stitch together edges of both head pieces at the same time. With burgundy yarn, sl st into any tr sp, (ch 1, sc in next tr sp) 7 times, ch 1 turn.
Row 2) (sl st in sc sp, ch 3, sl st in 3 rd ch from hook) 6 times, sl st in ch 1 sp, finish off.
Beak on head:
Row 1) Turn head over and work through both head pieces at the same time. With yellow yarn, sl st into tr sp that is next to comb, ch 4, sl st in 4 th ch from hook, sc in next tr sp, sl st in same sp, finish off.
Waddle on head (with beak to your left):
Row 1) Work through both head pieces at the same time. With burgundy yarn, sl st into tr sp that is next to beak, (ch 7, turn, sl st in 4 th ch from hook, sl st in remaining chs, sl st in same tr sp) 2 times, finish off.
Neck on head:
Row 1) Work stitches on edges along only one head piece and than turn over and continue stitches to the second head piece. With blue yarn, sl st in tc sp that is to the left of the comb, (ch3, sl st in next tc sp) 9 times, ch 3, turn over, sl st in 2 nd tb sp from waddle on second head piece, (ch 3, slt st in next tc sp) 9 times, finish off.
Hanger for body:
Row 1) With warm brown yarn, ch 23, turn.
Row 2) Sc in 2 nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn.
Row 3) Sc in each Sc across, sl st, finish off.
Towel:
Fold towel vertically into three sections and than fold in half. With an awl, punch 18 holes evenly spaced across the folded top edge of the towel. Make the holes about 3/8 to 1/2 down from folded edge.
Row 1) With white yarn, sl st in first hole in towel, sc in each hole across, ch 3 turn.
Row 2) Tr in each sc sp, ch 1, turn.
Row 3 Sc in each tr sp, sl st in last sp, finish off.
Assembly:
1) Fold body in half, matching beginning and end of tail rows as shown in illustration C. Slip the head on and pin in place. With needle and warm brown yarn stitch the head onto the body through all the layers.

2) Place one end of the hanger on one side of the chicken and sew hanger onto body through one layer. Flip the body over. Bring the other end of the hanger to the other side. Sew button on top of hanger through one layer. See illustration C and D.
3) Put crocheted end of towel between the bottom opened end of the body. Stitch the towel onto the body through all the layers with a needle and warm brown yarn. See illustration D.
4) With needle and black thread, sew the shank buttons unto the head for the eyes.
